Ways to $ave this Holiday!

Well, Halloween has now come and gone...(rather quickly, I think!) and how it's time to get a head start (I might actually be somewhat behind..) on making and buying Christmas gifts. With the recession still going on, many might still be out of work, might not be getting that Christmas bonus (again) this year, or haven't seen a raise in a while...so, I'm giving you ideas on how you can $ave on spending and giving!

~Do it YOURSELF!

You've heard this so many times, I know! But it really is not that hard, and anyone can do it! For a list of easy DIY gifts, check out Martha Stewart's website. She has a HUGE load of ideas from every holiday or occasion AND she always tells you how to do it.  *And people, it's handmade, it doesn't need to be PERFECT, that's the beauty in it! Finding a great blog with How-To Tutorials on crafts is also a great place to find ideas, so search around! Some of the blogs I Follow have amazing ideas-Check them out!

Here is an idea from Martha Stewart...using clip art to decorate a festive candle. Gift it!

~SALES, SALES, SALES!

I can admit that sometimes it can be expensive to make crafts, but if you shop sales and clearances, you can find some great deals. *Oh, and never forget your weekly coupon. Usually 40-50% off everytime! You can find them in the Sunday paper or sign up for E-newsletters through Joann's, Hobby Lobby, or Michael's! (I always get away with using multiples on several items, so print or cut out as many as you'd like!)

~Find ways to EARN $$$!

If you don't have money to spend in the first place, and really want to give gifts, find something you can do on the side that will earn you a little cash. i.e. babysitting, pet-sitting, rake some leaves, offer your services in your talents/skills, get a Seasonal job! So many people need help during the holidays, so let them know you're there!

 ~FREE Gift-giving!

Alright, You KNOW you all have done this...RE-GIFTING! It's not as tacky as many think. It's simple and thoughtful, actually. If you were given a gift card to a place that you'd NEVER shop at, then why be selfish and let it sit in your wallet un-used when you know someone that would LOVE to have it? LET IT GO!

Now get out there and get to work!

Crafts from Scraps

First of all, I have to show off the new sewing tags that came in from greenbeansnstrings. LOVE, LOVE them!

My mother in law came over the other day and brought me the DIY magazine. Let me just say that this is a MUST HAVE for any crafter! Currently, I am attempting to transform one wall of my bedroom into my sewing and craft area and this magazine has BRILLIANT ideas!

Check out their website here.

My good friend Lauren just got married on the beach in St. Augustine, Florida (best vacation spot, btw!) and she loves handmade gifts. I had no idea what I should make for newlyweds who already had all the necessities they needed. I dug through some scrap pieces of fabric and got the idea of coasters from one of my pattern books. The bottom lining is made with terry cloth, which we all know is used to make towels. Add some ribbon, buttons, felt, and different types of stitches, and there ya go! I added them into a bamboo wooden serving bowl with Italian spices!

Make sure you add a cute bow!

Tags, Tags, TAGS!!!

As you can tell, I am waaay too excited for my fabric sew-on tags to come in! I had them custom made by greenbeansnstrings! I told her my idea and this is what she came up with...

..So once I get them in, I will be using them on all my sewing projects!

Definitely go to this lady for all your tag needs! She is brilliant!

BTW, I see you all viewing my blog, so FOLLOW IT! :) I think my next blog will be some sort of sewing/craft tutorial, so stay tuned!

Between all of my recent vacations, school, boys, and packing for our move this weekend, I found some free time to work on some sewing projects.

I often check up on my favorite blogs, and found that I won the fabric giveaway from The Sewing Dork. I was thrilled and I'm excited to see what I can come up with when using them!

I love going through her tutorials because she has some amazingly easily, but fantastically cute ideas! So then I went through my fabrics and pulled out a linen and cotton and got to work. Here's what I came up with:

A boys toddler backpack with a silly dog pattern and brown linen.

After more browsing on The Sewing Dork's blog, I found a link to another brilliant person and came up with this one shortly after:

I am excited to say that I've tried making a boy's tie before that turned out absolutely horrible, but this time, I've done it!!

Thanks to my neighbor, Hobby Lobby, and Joann's, I have found some toddler and home decor patterns that I am dying to try out soon.

So here's to more sweet projects!

FALL into sewing..

So every time Autumn arrives, I get into this crazy sewing mode.

This one is for little Raegan. She is such a doll and I can't wait to see her in it!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays since it's pretty close to my birthday. This one is still up for grabs and in my opinion, one of the cutest things I've come up with!

I know, I come up with some random stuff, but hey, if you show it, I will sew it!

Californ I A

So, I just got home from my mini vacation in my hometowns in So Cal. It was a long time coming and I had the best time with everyone!

The weather was absolutely PERFECT and I can't believe I ever left! I am hoping to visit again very soon, and even considering returning...because this..
 ..IS MY HOME!
