The Benefits of Amazon Mom

For those who have not heard about Amazon Mom, it's one of the BEST ways to get cheap diapers and wipes! It's completely FREE to join! When you "Subscribe & Save" on on diapers and wipes, you automatically save 30%! You will always get FREE 2-day shipping as well. You can also cancel subscriptions anytime or change the date you want them delivered on the next shipment!

One of the deals I always buy is the Huggies Size 4, 140 count for only $20.89!! (They are $30.65 at Walmart.com & higher in stores!) That is a savings averaging about $14! Which for the most part, you CANNOT get this price even when you use your Manufacturer & Store coupons TOGETHER!

Also, Amazon will randomly have coupons that you can "clip" right underneath the selling product for even more savings!

So to conclude, Amazon Mom IS worth checking out! You can also find great deals on the refill packs of wipes and baby food, and toys! However, Subscribing to anything other than diapers and wipes will only get you a 15% discount! (Which is still great! Just the diapers and wipes get the 30% discount!)

P.S. If you use Swagbucks, you can score Amazon gift cards which can make this deal FREE! You can find the Swagbucks icon on this blog!

Look Polished & Put Together on a Real Budget

I saw that Walgreen's posted a blog titled, "Look polished and put together on any budget."  You can read it here.

I was a little thrown off that the 3 tips were these:

1. Use a foam hair dye in between salon trips

2. Use Olay Pro-X cleaning brush

3. Use Crest Whitening strips

While all of these products are great, they are also NOT budget friendly to most middle class families.
They are the most expensive brand products that are usually still expensive on sale. So I wanted to share realistic twists to these same beauty & budget friendly tips! They work just the same, if not better, in my opinion.

1. You don't have to go to a salon, but if you need to touch up in between trips, most 10-minute touch up cream hair-color will do. (I just bought Clairol Natural Instincts for $0.47 @ Target! (You can get most brands for under $3 with sales and coupons). Honestly, I never get my hair dyed at the salon :) (See previous blog post). Compared to Walgreen's suggestion of John Frieda Foam Hair Color: $12.99

2. Use Clean & Clear instead of Olay. There are many great affordable options for facial cleansers. Baking soda, or sugar homemade facial scrubs are also an option!

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Surge Energizing Cleanser Kit $7 at most retailers. Compared to Walgreen's suggestion: Olay Pro-X Cleansing System Kit retails for $26.00-$35.00

3. Use Baking Soda instead of Whitening Strips.

I have never seen affordable whitening strips. Not even with coupon stack match-up. Simply create a paste with baking soda & water and add it to your toothpaste! Baking soda $0.50 compared to Walgreen's suggestion of Crest White Strips, $35.00-$45.00.

Clearnace Finds at Target!

So, I usually don't make trips to Target...just because it's a little further than the 30 second drive to Walgreens and the 60 second drive to Publix & Kroger. BUT, I decided to go ahead and check out the weekly deals on  Totally Target, print the Target.com store coupons, and just browse around to see what I could find.

Here are my best finds:

Gillette Men's Body Wash 2-pack $3.38 on Clearance
(Used Gillette Body wash BOGO coupon & $2 off Gillette Body wash & $1 off Gillette Body wash.)
Total spent: $0.38 OR $0.19 for each 2 pack!

Clairol Hair-color $3.47 on Clearance
(Used one $3 off Clairol Hair-color coupon.)
 Total spent: $0.47

Dove Men's +Care & Bonus trial size Deodorant $2.78 on Clearance
(Used $2.00 off Dove Men's +Care deodorant coupon.)
Total Spent: $0.78

This one is an okay deal...more fun than anything. It's a 5 Liner pack inside a really cute tin case with a $1 off U Kotex Target coupon inside!! Plus, it came in a pretty zip pouch. These pretty products are FREE @ Target wyb 2 U Kotex products. However, I would just purchase them like I did and have the $1 off store coupon and print more Manufacturer coupons to match a better sale down the road. The Target coupon expiration date is 12/31/11. So there is lots of time for them to go on sale! :)

U Kotex Liners $2.99
(Used $1 off any U Kotex product)
Total Spent: $1.99

It turns out, some of the best deals didn't require Target store coupons!

Realistic Savings & Coupon Strategies

We all love sales..and when you have a coupon for that sale, it's a little hard to resist. I really want to stress the importance of this blog post because the purpose to for using couponing strategies, is to save money, not spend it! Just because there is a pack of fruit snacks or little Johnny's favorite sugar-filled cereal on sale, doesn't necessarily mean you need it or Johnny needs it. The challenge to couponing on a budget means to buy products you know you WILL use. Stock up on those products so that you can put your budget towards other needed necessities for you and your family.

There are coupons or discounts for basically everything.  Restaurants, family activities, theme parks, gas, gym memberships, but you have to look for them! Get to know your grocery store and drug store very well. Get to know all about their savings programs and sign up for their eNewsletters and Subscribe by mail as well! Find great coupon and savings bloggers who post great deals, so you don't have to do the searching.

Here are some other great ways to save:

Swagbucks.com

When you have a budget, it is SO important that you stick to your budget. Coupons and sales will come and go, but your money will not!

Just a few grocery shopping tips:

Browse your store's Weekly Ad BEFORE you shop. Write your grocery list from that Weekly Ad & then pull out your coupons for those items. Carry a calculator with you and add up your costs as you shop. This way you're not surprised when you see your total at checkout AND seeing your total on your calculator will keep you from buying unnecessary items!
